During 2013, Regional Development Australia – Northern Rivers (RDA-NR) and Northern Rivers Social Development Council (NRSDC) developed the Northern Rivers Regional Social Plan 2013-2018.
In developing the Plan the need for a knowledge base that provided information about the participation, engagement and involvement of community was identified. The Community Wellbeing Survey was developed to meet this need.
A social profile, based on internationally recognised social indicators developed by Community Indicators Victoria, was developed by the RDA-NR and NRSDC. Jetty Research were then engaged to develop the survey, which was adapted from the Victorian Community Survey, developed by Community Indicators Victoria.
The survey was undertaken in March 2013 and distributed to a random sample, through Jetty Research, and a volunteer sample, through community networks. Preliminary results were published in May 2013.
The final report is now available. It provides data relating to the wellbeing and participation of the Northern Rivers community in relation to arts and culture, sports and recreation, and civic engagement. It also addresses feelings of safety and life satisfaction within the community.
The survey will be repeated at regular intervals to provide an ongoing measure of wellbeing and participation in the Northern Rivers community.
